Date #8: A Cup of Joe

Date #8: Chris, 29
Location: Starbucks in Margate

You’re probably thinking, STARBUCKS? Well, I wanted to go to another coffee house I like in Ft. Lauderdale, but my date lives in Boca and I was coming from Plantation, so we decided to meet halfway-ish in the suburb of Margate.

Chris and I had something in common before we even began our conversation. We are both recent transplants from the Tri-State area (him from NJ, me from NY). We talked about moving  and how I struggle with the idea of wanting to move back to NYC, and how he can’t imagine ever living there again. And of course the topic of sports came up (him liking the Phillies…yuck, me loving the Yankees).

We somehow migrated to the topic of food (he’s a huge fan of Cuban and Mediterranean, I personally love Mexican) which naturally led to a conversation about traveling (he has some family scattered in Europe and how I went to France and Spain and want to take my mom to Italy). Fast forward and it was nearly 2 hours later. So I called an end to our date, we walked to our cars and hugged it out.

Bottom Line: I could definitely see us being friends. I would say maybe going to a game, except we have a don’t see eye to eye in the teams that we like. Maybe we could grab a drink at sports bar. And although he was really nice, and I have no idea if he feels the same way, I didn’t really feel a spark. Although I would maybe hang out with him again, not sure I see us more than friends.

[Ed note: I should mention that this date was also found via Match.com. You may remember that I posted in an effort to “cast a wider net” the lovely folks at Match.com gave me a gratis 3-month membership.]
