You may remember that I was looking for a date to take to the Marlins game a few days ago. Well, a few replied, but I got confirmation from someone and decided to take him.
Date #7: James, 28
Location: Marlins Game in Miami Gardens
I met James at the game, although while we were both on our way, he called me to ask if I’d taken a look at the radar. Granted, it definitely was overcast, but for some reason, I didn’t think much of it. After I got off the phone I looked at the radar on my phone and it looked like someone threw up green on the screen. In other words, precipitation was all around and covering the South Florida area. In fact, when I got to the stadium, it looked like this:

After parking my car, I picked up our tickets at will call (courtesy of my lovely friend Catrina who works for the team) and it started POURING. James called to ask where I was and I ran over about 30 feet to meet up with him. We took shelter at Gate G and sat at a picnic table to make some conversation. We decided to to hang out and wait for the rain to let up before heading into the game.
We talked about our likes and dislikes (turns out we both hate the rain), but I felt like I was doing most of the talking. After about 20 minutes or so, the rain had let up a little bit. The game definitely wasn’t starting any time soon, but I figured we could at least go inside, maybe grab a snack or a drink. He was a little hesitant, saying that he didn’t want to sit in the rain and get wet. So he said he was gonna go and get his umbrella from his car (I had mine in my purse). I told him ok and he said he’d be right back.
Cut to 5 minutes later…I get a text message that reads as follows:
Hey I think we should just maybe do something another day. I don’t want to sit in the rain and I’m also tired for some reason. I’m sorry.
What? WHAT?!? Did he just leave without saying goodbye and send me a text message to do so? I had a brief Carrie Bradshaw/Post-It moment. This guy seriously just left without saying goodbye and left me here. Needless to say, I was not happy, but I tried to remain calm and collected. So I responded:
So that’s it? You’re leaving? If you don’t want to go out that’s ok. Just didn’t expect you to leave so soon.
To which he replied:
I have no energy for some reason. Absolutely none :(
Um, ok. So, I got dumped on a date before any sort of relationship had even started? I have to admit, I think this is worse than original Date #1 (not Matt of course, he’s awesome). Date #1 never got back to me to confirm a place or time. This guy showed up, talked to me, and left. I went into the game for a while (which never happened due to the rain delay), then went home. Granted, we had even discussed possibly doing something else if the rain didn’t let up. But I guess he wanted no part of it and ran for the hills.
Bottom Line: Without a doubt, worst dating experience thus far on this month long journey. I’m usually a very forgiving person and believe in second chances, but if he does call for some reason, not sure I can bring myself to go out with him again. Which is too bad cause he was cute.
[Ed note: I should mention that this date was also found via Match.com. You may remember that I posted in an effort to “cast a wider net” the lovely folks at Match.com gave me a gratis 3-month membership.]
